Are you covered by an HMO, PPO, Major
Medical or National Health Plan? If so, most often you need only a supplemental
policy – one that pays what your primary coverage does not pay –
Medical Evacuation would be one item not usually covered by an HMO/PPO.
If you have no other insurance, you need a Major Medical Plan good worldwide
with a maximum limit of $250,000 to $1,000,000 or more. Because medical
care is less expensive overseas, the premiums for these plans are quite
reasonable!
Note: In my eighteen years in International Insurance, I have never seen
policies that give adequate coverage to sick people traveling abroad.
Pre-existing conditions are almost never covered. If cost is a factor
(and it usually is!) go with a higher deductible rather than a lower maximum
benefit. A $1000 or $2000 debt to a hospital can be negotiated easier
than a debt of $50,000 and up! Contact us if you need additional information. |
